Richard Black était autrefois connu comme le «roi du Sunset Strip» et Shark Island était autrefois le groupe house du célèbre Gazzaris.
Signé chez Epic Records en 1989, le groupe a sorti son premier album Law of the Order, et a également vu les morceaux « Dangerous » et « Father Time » présentés dans le film Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, ainsi que la chanson « My City » de le film Point Break.
Le chanteur principal Richard Black fera partie du supergroupe éphémère Contraband qui comprenait également Michael Schenker (Scorpions, UFO) et des membres de L.A. Guns, Ratt et Vixen. Ils ont sorti un album en 1991 avant de se séparer.

Shark Island a été ressuscité en 2005 et a enregistré et sorti l’album Gathering of the Faithful en 2006. En 2018, le groupe a commencé à travailler sur Bloodline qui a été enregistré en Croatie et à Los Angeles et officiellement publié par Deko Entertainment sous le nom de Bloodline 2.020 en 2020.
Il a été produit par Alex Kane (Life Sex Death, Enuff Z’Nuff) et mixé par la légendaire Sylvia Massy (Aerosmith, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers).
